Best Way To Send Large Files
Jan 30th, 2010, 10:20pm

I want to send some large files via email, I've tried zipping them, but they're still too big. (10mb+)
Can anyone suggest a reliable way to send them, or somewhere I can deposit the file for the recipient to collect?

Any help gratefully received.

if i am sending any images to magazines i tend to send them via ftp - the program i use if Ipswitch FTP.

providing the people you are sending them to have an ftp address you can normally connect to that and send them via a server.

Last time I tried that they never got there! Plus I wanted an "instant" method.

Thanks runcharliefox I'll have a look into that one.

Sorry for not answering sooner.

FTP generally requires you to have access to a web server.

This doesn't: http://www.cutesendit.com/

Haven't had to do it for a while, but "yousendit.com" seems pretty much the same sort of idea...They were free up to a certain file size, I think it was pretty huge, like 2Gb or something, but like I said I haven't used them for some time.....

In fact, when you start to look around there are quite a lot of free services available....

dropbox.com 2Gb of online storage free.

We have one of the bigger accounts for shovelling video about and it's very simple to use.

If all the cars on the UK's motorways were put end to end, some dick in a BMW would still try to overtake.

Some Lifehacker suggestions: Here

I haven't tried the Opera Unite thing yet, but it does look a tiny bit intimidating for the non-PC-types among us.......
